Biometric verification is how BISP confirms that the right person is collecting the money: your thumbprint at the payment point must match the fingerprint NADRA holds for your CNIC. When it does not match, the payment is held — not cancelled. The most common causes are worn fingerprints from age or manual work, dry or dirty hands, an expired or un-updated CNIC, a SIM that is not registered on your own CNIC, or a faulty machine at one particular counter. Work through the fixes below in order, cheapest first, before travelling to another district or paying anyone.
Two warnings that matter more than any fix: first, BISP sends SMS only from 8171 — any other number asking for a code or a fee is fraud. Second, never share your OTP with anyone, including shop staff. A genuine payment point never needs your OTP to “fix” a fingerprint.
Step-by-Step: 7 Fixes for Fingerprint Not Matching
- Clean and dry your hands. Wash your hands, dry them fully, and remove dust, oil or henna residue. This alone fixes a large share of failed scans.
- Try a different finger. If the thumb fails, try the index finger of either hand. Machines read some fingers far better than others, especially for elderly beneficiaries.
- Try a different machine or centre. Biometric devices differ by location. If one HBL Konnect or Bank Alfalah counter keeps failing, try another authorised payment point before assuming your record is the problem.
- Check your CNIC first. If your CNIC has expired, or your name, marital status or date of birth does not match BISP’s record, renew or correct it at NADRA first — a corrected CNIC cannot verify against old data.
- Update your fingerprints at NADRA. If the problem persists across centres, visit a NADRA Registration Centre and ask for a biometric update. Your new fingerprints are re-scanned and synced with the system; scheme guides report the sync taking roughly 24–48 hours, so retry after a day or two, not the same hour.
- Check your SIM registration. The mobile number linked to your BISP record should be registered on your own CNIC, not a family member’s. If it is not, get it corrected at a franchise of your network — this matters for payment SMS and wallet verification.
- Visit your BISP Tehsil Office. If verification still fails after a NADRA update, go to the Tehsil Office with your original CNIC and your registered SIM. Staff can check your record and advise on the alternative verification route for cases where fingerprints genuinely cannot be read. Do not accept a “paid fix” from anyone outside the office.
What to Carry When You Go
Original CNIC (not a photocopy) · your registered mobile phone and SIM · your 8171 payment message, if you received one · any NADRA update slip, if you have visited NADRA. Keep the payment receipt from every successful collection — it proves no deduction was made.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will I lose my qist if my fingerprint fails?
No. A failed verification holds the payment; it does not cancel your eligibility. Fix the cause and retry — the qist remains payable once verification succeeds.
How many times can I try at the payment point?
Do not keep retrying on the same machine dozens of times. After two or three failed attempts on different fingers, move to the next fix — a different machine, then NADRA — instead of repeated failed scans.
Does NADRA charge for a biometric update?
BISP’s own services are free. NADRA may apply its standard service charges for its own services — confirm any fee at the NADRA counter itself, and never pay a middleman for a NADRA appointment.
My CNIC is expired. Can I still collect?
No — renew it at NADRA first, then re-check your status on 8171 before travelling to collect.
Someone offered to fix my fingerprint for Rs. 500. Is it real?
No. It is a scam. Biometric fixes happen only at NADRA centres, authorised payment points and BISP Tehsil Offices, and BISP never charges for them. Report the person on the BISP helpline 0800-26477.
Final Words
Start with clean hands and a different finger, then a different machine, then NADRA, then the Tehsil Office — in that order. Most beneficiaries never need to go past step three.
